I tried buying vbucks again via GeForce NOW and received the same message. I then loaded the game up natively on the MacBook and was able to make purchases. I guess this is mainly just an FYI for anyone in my (slightly unusual) situation that for (presumably good reasons) purchasing via GeForce NOW is disabled.
