The Ninja 400 is a mostly comfortable bike with sporting plastics. The 450ss is a true blood sports bike, more alike the ZX4RR. It's an awesome thing, but you better be young and in good shape. I don't really see how the 450ss is any more sporty than the Ninja 400 other than the more forward seating position.
Put short, the CLX works on a modified ER-6n engine you normally see on a Kawasaki z650 or other such parallel twin. YES, that does mean that oil filters made for those bikes will work on the 700 CLX.
