It takes a moment for the oil pressure to take out the slack. 4,500 miles per litre is way better than normal - shows just how good the engine is. Fiat must have done the valve seals or the oil consumption would be considerably higher. Well done guys. Diesels can give the illusion of low oil consumption.Nov 5, 2014. #10. Previously,,,, the pick up part of the oil pump was almost completely blocked with old bits of silicon. (Previous owner!) This had caused a build up in pressure and the likely cause of the smokey engine, poor performance and maybe even the previous head gasket change. (Had suspected a duff valve seal too).
